Restoration Procedure
In addition to the information we give as standard the following
is a run down on our practical approach:
- Preparation is done
with 4 angle grinders.
- We have made our own shroud which will fit
into industrial vacuum cleaners. This gives approximately 80% reduction
in dust into the atmosphere.
- We have diamond blades made with 6mm wide
segments.
- We remove whatever our grinders miss ie: top
and bottom of vertical joints with air tools or a hammer and plugger.
- Excess dust left in the joints is removed with compressed air .
- 10-20mm removal of existing mortar from brick
face is our standard.
- Our latex based additive gives excellent adhesion
without aeration which would weaken the mortar set strength.
- The nozzles on our guns are cut to suit the
joint sizes which greatly reduces the smearing on the face of
the brick.
- Tool finishing is generally 1/2 round, cut
and struck, or raked out and/or Tuckpointed.
- With raking we compress the joint with an
iron tool after raking. With 1/2 round we remove the crowns.
- Washing is done with slow running water the
following day or low pressure water only. Hydrochloric acid is usually not required.
- Generally we clean our mess before leaving
daily. Our goal is to give a finish that looks just laid
with minimum inconvenience.
- We guarantee our work for a minimum of 20
years providing there is no rising damp.
Below is a example of poor workmanship by other companies (Pic A) in comparison to ours (Pic B). It displays the mess left on the brick face, the uneven and wavering white tuckpoint line and the wide mortar edge on each side of the tuckpoint line.
